Bone Marrow Aspirate Stem Cell Therapy (BMAC)
Using your own bone marrow as a concentrated healing resource.
Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) takes a small sample of bone marrow—usually from the back of your hip—and processes it into a concentrated injectate rich in:
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)
Growth factors
Immune-modulating cells
Research suggests BMAC can reduce pain and improve function in patients with knee osteoarthritis and other joint problems, often with better outcomes than some conventional injectables, though high-quality long-term data is still emerging.
Who might consider BMAC?
How BMAC works at NexGenEsis Healthcare?
Harvest – Under local anesthesia, a needle draws bone marrow from your iliac crest (back of the pelvic bone). This is quick but you should expect short-term soreness at the harvest site.
Concentration – The marrow is spun in a sterile system to concentrate MSCs and other active components.
Guided injection – Using ultrasound or fluoroscopy, your provider injects BMAC directly into the damaged joint or tendon.
Rehab – You’ll follow a tailored activity and physical-therapy plan to support the biologic work happening inside the joint.
Limitations and Realities
BMAC is not a guaranteed fix; some patients improve a lot, some a little, some not at all.
It is still being studied; preparation methods and ideal dosing are not fully standardized.
It is typically not covered by insurance and is offered as an elective, alternative therapy.
