Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) at NexGenEsis Healthcare Honolulu uses your own bone marrow as a source of regenerative cells and signaling molecules to support joint and soft-tissue health.
What Happens During BMAC
- Consultation & imaging review: We confirm that your diagnosis and general health make you a reasonable candidate.
- Bone marrow draw: Under local anesthesia and sterile technique, bone marrow is taken—usually from the pelvic bone.
- Processing: The aspirate is placed in a specialized device that concentrates important components, including progenitor cells and growth factors.
- Targeted injection: The concentrate is injected into the affected joint or soft tissue, often with image guidance for precision.
Most patients go home the same day. Temporary soreness at the donor and injection sites is common for a few days.
When We Talk About BMAC
We usually consider BMAC when:
- Arthritis or joint wear is moderate to advanced
- Conservative care (medications, physical therapy, basic injections) has not met your goals
- You’re looking for a biologic option before committing to joint replacement
BMAC is elective, out-of-pocket, and not guaranteed, but for some patients it can be a meaningful part of a broader strategy.
Expectations and Follow-Up
- Any improvement is typically gradual, evaluated over months, not days
- We schedule follow-up visits to track your progress and adjust your plan
- If your imaging and symptoms suggest a low chance of benefit, we will say so and steer you toward more appropriate options
If degenerative joint pain is limiting your island lifestyle, contact NexGenEsis Healthcare Honolulu to schedule a BMAC evaluation and go through your options in detail.
